After a wonderful lunch meeting today with John Ettorre, a fantastic freelancer, I realized that there is a lot that my clients and other readers don't know about me. Thus, I am introducing the "Friday Factoid," a post where I reveal some (hopefully) interesting and lesser-known factoids about little ol' me. We'll see how many Fridays I can come up with relatively interesting factoids for. When I start resorting to talking about my favorite color, I suppose it will have run its course.
So this Friday's factoid is:
I have performed in 5 countries.
Just in case I haven't told you, in addition to having a degree in Communication and an awesome career as a full-time freelance writer, I also have a degree in Music. I've played the violin since I was 8 years old, and I took voice as my major instrument in college (and continued on violin). I still freelance for weddings (by the way). I am currently a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and sing avidly in other local groups. I also do some conducting. Now, about those performances...
Those 5 countries include the good old USA. Here is a list of some of the places I've performed:
Carnegie Hall, New York, NY - The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus
The KKL, Lucerne, Switzerland - The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus
Royal Albert Hall, London, England - The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus
Severance Hall, Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus
Casa Loma, Toronto Canada - Manheim Orchestra
The University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky - Northeast Ohio Youth Orchestra
In El Zocalo - Cuernavaca, Mexico - This was just me playing fiddle with some street musicians, but I'm counting it on principle!
I will be adding Cincinnati to this list in just a few weeks. I know many musicians have much longer travel resumes, but for an inspired freelancer, I think my list is pretty good!
So there you have it, a Friday factoid - about five minutes before Saturday. Have a great weekend everyone!
