At this point, I think it's safe to say that I'm "twitterpated," as the small woodland creatures from Bambi would say. I'll admit it publicly, my husband was the one that got me into twitter. He is the fastest Social Media adopter that I've ever met. It's almost as if he's sitting and waiting for the latest greatest thing to turn up in his google feeds (when he's not busy being a doctor, husband and all-around good guy). Before twitter was a buzzword on anyone's tongue, my husband and I were sitting next to each other with our laptops fired up, and he was pestering me about joining twitter.
It's actually really hard to update two twitters without becoming somewhat redundant. I know some people who do it successfully, but I'm definitely failing. Why two twitters? Well, I say things on my personal twitter that I wouldn't necessarily want to share with my business contacts (depending on the closeness of our relationship). I talk about the things I might talk about on my personal blog; the sagas of my daily existence.
For instance, I highly doubt my work contacts want to know that I have a headache, that I'm listening to an exorbitant amount of Damien Rice or that I like to randomly quote independent films. They also don't need to know about my personal politics, my little twitter quibbles and all of my other personal details. It just seems a little bit unprofessional to have an update about my latest personal frustration on my professional website.
On the other hand, I'm a very open person and often develop close relationships with work contacts. Several work contacts are facebook friends (which is linked to my personal twitter via the updates) and several of them are genuinely interested in my life. This begs the question - should I even have two twitters? I'm sure it would be more interesting if my personal twitter were connected to my professional website. Especially since I have a hard time updating the professional one with anything too interesting. Writing is not highly interesting to talk about - there are a limited number of things to say. Who wants to read "I'm working on a brochure and talking to a client" 75 times per week? No one.
So, I need to put some thought into how to solve my little twitter crisis. If you have any thoughts, please feel free to share. In the meantime, I'm going to go catch up on the people I'm following - don't want to miss any of the timeline! If I do, I'll be sorting through @replies all day.
I think this might be a case of a Rock and a Hard Place. I see your point on both ends really.
personally since I'm becoming addicting to twitter myself I wouldn't mind to see your personal twitter become connected to this blog, since it'd give me another thing to read during my days of work.
But! I see the point of do your really want to open all that info up to people who are reading about freelance writing.
So basically i didn't answer your question at all.. but instead talked in circles around it. Sorry for that... I'd say keep them separate for now.
